meet the band

The guys who help keep the Lane moving. Meet the musicians behind the music and the personalities behind the show.

Artist/Vocals/Guitar

Joey Lane

The guy whose name is on the sign.

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Joey picked up a guitar at seven years old and never looked back. A few years later, he taught himself piano and quickly became obsessed with Billy Joel, spending hours trying to learn his songs and figuring out how great music could tell a story. That love eventually led him to songwriting in college and countless acoustic shows, where he found his voice and learned what kind of artist he wanted to be.

Growing up in suburban Long Island, Joey didn't discover country music until high school, but once he did, it became a huge part of his life. Artists like Morgan Wallen, HARDY, Eric Church, and countless others shaped his sound and fueled his passion for creating music that people could relate to and have a good time with. After making Charleston home, he found himself surrounded by a community that shared that same love and hunger for country music. It's that passion—and a belief that there's room for something fresh and authentic—that keeps him pushing forward.

These days, Joey and the band are all about putting on a show. Whether it's original music or crowd favorites, the goal is always the same: loud guitars, good people, and making sure nobody's checking their watch. Off stage, you'll probably find Joey playing golf, staying active, watching sports, or convincing himself he definitely doesn't need another guitar. He firmly believes country music sounds better turned up, every crowd has one more song left in them, and no great night ever ended with, "Let's call it early."

Lead Guitar

Todd Mayson

Todd Mayson is a Charleston-based guitarist with decades of live performance experience. Rooted in classic country, Southern rock, blues, and Americana, his playing is built around feel, tone, and serving the song.

Equally comfortable with Telecaster twang, melodic lead work, and acoustic guitar, Todd has spent much of his musical career playing alongside and supporting other artists throughout the Southeast.

Rhythm Guitar

Jorden Humble

Jorden is a rhythm guitarist from Charleston with a lifelong passion for music. He first picked up the guitar as a kid and has been playing ever since. Over the years, he developed a strong sense of rhythm and a deep appreciation for a variety of musical styles. As a proud USAF veteran, he brings discipline, dedication, and commitment to everything he does.

Music has always been an important part of his life, both on and off the stage. Whether he's jamming with friends, performing, or learning new songs, he enjoys every opportunity to grow as a musician. For Jorden, playing guitar is more than a hobby—it's a lifelong passion and a way to connect with others through music.

Bass Guitar

Scott "Scotty Dog Magnet" Waddell

Scott "Scotty Dog Magnet" Waddell was raised on a farm near the Cross Keys battlefield in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Falling in with a bad element of punk rockers in high school in the nearby town of Harrisonburg, he picked up a Sears catalog bass with a mind to play Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, and the Clash.

Quickly outgrowing the instrument and the music, he took formal lessons and was soon heavily influenced by Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, and Jeff Berlin. He graduated from James Madison University where he performed orchestral and jazz bass, and he has since been performing everything from metal to musicals while always having a soft spot for outlaw country, rockabilly, and Appalachian folk music.

Scott brings a steady hand and a deep thump to the Joey Lane Band. As the backbone of the rhythm section, he seamlessly meshes with Arod's full-frontal assaults on the drum kit to provide the ballsy foundation that keeps the music driving all night long. Whether it's a country anthem or a rock-infused original, his feel, timing, and energy help turn great songs into memorable live experiences.

Rarely standing still, Scott is always moving around the stage, feeding off the crowd's energy and sharing a laugh with his bandmates between songs. Some bass players prefer to stay hidden in the back, but Scott never got that memo. If you see someone grinning, dancing around with a five-string bass, and having entirely too much fun, there's a good chance you've found him. After all, if you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong.

Drums

Alex "ARod" Rodriguez

ARod is a drummer, studio owner, and lifelong music lover whose journey has been shaped by a simple passion for playing great songs and working with good people. During the 1980s and 1990s, he spent years playing rock clubs and venues up and down the East Coast, performing with bands such as Last Laugh, Cadence, and a variety of solo artists from Maine to Florida.

After stepping away from regular live performances, Alex turned his attention to helping other musicians tell their stories through music. He founded Alligator Music Studio, where for more than ten years he has had the privilege of working with artists, songwriters, and bands, helping them bring their ideas from inspiration to recording.

While he always stayed connected to music, it was the dedication and commitment of Joey Lane that inspired him to pick up the sticks again and return to performing. Seeing the hard work, passion, and respect for the craft reminded Alex why he fell in love with music in the first place.

Today, Alex brings years of experience, a steady groove, and a team-first mindset to every stage and studio session. He believes great music is built on listening, supporting the song, and helping others shine. Whether behind the drum kit or behind the recording console, he's grateful for every opportunity to be part of the music and the people who make it possible.
